2024 Emmy Awards First-Time Nominees: Ryan Gosling, Paul Rudd

The 2024 Emmy nominations were announced Wednesday morning, with Paul Rudd and Ryan Gosling among the list of nominees for the first time.

Rudd earned his first Emmy nomination, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy, for his third season on There are only murders in the building. And Ryan Gosling, who earned a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting a memorable episode of Saturday Night Liveis also a first-time Emmy nominee.

Two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts also received her first Emmy nomination for her role in Ryan Murphy’s feud: Capote vs. The SwansShe is nominated in the category of best actress in a limited or anthology series, in competition alongside Jodie Foster (True Detective: Nightmare Before Christmas), Brie Larson (Chemistry class), Temple of Juno (Fargo) and Sofia Vergara (Griselda).

Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won an Oscar this year for her supporting role in The survivorsalso received her first-ever Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series after appearing in “Only murders are committed in the building”her third season. She will be competing against Olivia Colman (The bear) and Jamie Lee Curtis (The bear), as well as comedy veterans Kaitlin Olson (Tips), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live).

Also in the guest actress category and making her Emmy debut is veteran actress Parker Posey, who was nominated for her appearance in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Dominic West, another notable Emmy newcomer, received a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Prince Charles in The crownIt’s a triumphant moment for the actor after being snubbed for his performance in the same role last year, as well as for his stint in Thread as Jimmy McNulty. He is joined in the category by fellow newbie Hiroyuki Sanada, who won acclaim for his lead role as Yoshii Toranaga in Shogun. West and Sanada are competing against previous nominees Idris Elba (Divert), Donald Glover (Mr. and Mrs. Smith)Walton Goggins (To fall) and Gary Oldman (Slow horses).

Sanada Shogun The co-stars were also honored with their first Emmy nominations: Anna Sawai is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, while Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira are both up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama. Shogun’s Néstor Carbonell is also up for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama. The Japanese series, which premiered in February, led this year’s Emmys with 25 nominations.

Jack Lowden, first-time nominee (Slow horses) is also up for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, while Tracy Letts (Win time), another debutant, joins Carbonell in the guest category.
