“This is such a stupid movie. It has so many unnecessary scenes (the time machine, that thing with the farmers), plot twists that happen because the plot requires them (Hailey Duff’s mother telling her she has to go to the ball with Napoleon, the audience cheering Napoleon’s horrible dancing), and the few jokes that fall completely flat (the only good joke in this movie is when Pedro’s cousins threaten the bully; one particularly horrible joke that I can’t get over was the farmer not knowing what chicken claws were).
I respect that it’s an indie comedy that imagines a particularly eccentric world that you want to live in. I respect that the film itself seems well-made (good production quality, the cinematography is quite respectable). The actors all did a pretty good job playing their one-dimensional characters (Jon Heder in particular gave his all as Napoleon). My issues with this film were really with the writing, which was just so… so… bad.”
