Jets vs. 49ers live updates: Aaron Rodgers returns to Monday Night Football lineup after missing 2024 with torn Achilles tendon

For the second straight year, the New York Jets will open their season on Monday night. And while they’d love to start the season with a win over a Super Bowl contender (like the team did last year by beating the Buffalo Bills), they’d prefer their future Hall of Fame quarterback play more than four plays.

The Jets are in the San Francisco Bay Area to face the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers and hope to finally begin the Aaron Rodgers era. After tearing his Achilles tendon in that opener last year, the Jets have had to deal with poor quarterback play all season and finished 7-10.

The 49ers had a very different season with Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey both finishing in the top five in MVP voting and narrowly missing out on winning the Super Bowl, losing to the Chiefs in overtime after an 11-6 campaign in which San Francisco won the NFC West for the third time under Kyle Shanahan.
