Maisy Stella, who plays 18-year-old Elliot Labrant, finds herself at 39 (played by Aubrey Plaza) in the Megan Park trailer. My old asswhich fell on Thursday.
The coming-of-age story takes the form of a summer mushroom trip that Elliot takes with his girlfriends while vacationing in a cottage country north of Toronto before heading off to university. As she stumbles by a campfire, Elliot encounters Plaza’s character sitting on the same log, except she’s twenty years his senior – and full of warnings about what his younger self should or shouldn’t not to do.
“You’re pretty hot being middle-aged,” Elliot muses at one point in the trailer, to which a defensive young Elliot responds sternly, “I’m a very young adult.” Eventually, Elliott realizes she’s older, or “old ass,” and she’s rethinking everything about family, love, and a summer that will change her forever.
After her older sister warns 18-year-old Elliot about falling in love, everything gets complicated when she meets Chad, the person her “old ass” specifically pointed out. Soon, young Elliott opens up to what her future self might have to show her about life and love.
My old ass also stars Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler and Kerrice Brooks, and is produced by Tom Ackerley, Margot Robbie, Josey McNamara and Steven Rales. Park’s second feature film after The consequences, which she also wrote, will have a limited theatrical release starting September 13, with a national rollout to follow.
