The adaptation of the classic novel by Françoise Sagan with Chloé Sevigny Hello Sadness by director Durga Chew-Bose is set to open the 2024 Toronto Film Festival’s Discovery program with a world premiere, organizers announced Wednesday.
Claes Bang, Lily McInerny and French actress Nailia Harzoune also star in this contemporary English-language take on the Canadian director-turned-screenwriter. TIFF’s Discovery program, which focuses on emerging and up-and-coming international filmmakers, also features world premieres of Dog reservation And Letterkenny star First feature film and comedy by Kaniehtiio Horn Seeds.
There will also be world premieres for Afolabi Olalekan Freedom Roadby Egil Pedersen My father’s daughterLaura Carreira’s Falling, Pavlo Ostrikov’s You are the universe and that of K’Naan Warsame Mother mother, co-produced by Alex Kurtzman.
Over the years, Toronto’s Discovery section has screened the debut films of Oscar winners, such as Only with your partnerAlfonso Cuarón’s first feature film; Christopher Nolan’s first feature film Following; The role of Yorgos Lanthimos’ recruit Kinetta; and Barry Jenkins’ first directorial effort, the 2008 romantic drama Medicine against melancholy.
The Discovery 2024 program consists of 24 titles from 25 countries.
Toronto announced earlier that this year’s festival would open with the Ben Stiller comedy Nutcrackerby director David Gordon Green. And Rebel Wilson The Deba musical set in rural Australia, will close TIFF.
The 2024 Toronto Film Festival will take place from September 5 to 15.
