Chloë Sévigny is the embodiment of cool. She’s always been like this.
Chloë has amassed an incredible filmography over the course of her decades-long career. One of his many roles was in the iconic 2000 film American Psycho as Patrick Bateman’s secretary, Jean.
Of course, you don’t even need me to tell you that Christian Bale played Patrick himself – the infamous murderous protagonist.
Now, if you’ve seen the film, you know that Christian and Chloë share a few scenes together. (If you haven’t, don’t worry, we won’t get into spoiler territory here.)
Well, during a recent Vanity Fair round table with American Psycho with Josh Lucas, Chloë revealed that she wasn’t too excited about Christian’s immersive acting process.
“I was trying to respect his process, which I found difficult because I am very gregarious and silly and awkward, without the general public knowing,” she explained.
“When people take themselves so seriously, I kind of shut down, even though I take my work very seriously and I love acting and so on.”
Chloë explained that when it came to being Christian’s scene partner, she wanted “a little more generosity to make me feel more comfortable, which is my own ego.”
“It was a really difficult dynamic for me, but I don’t think I thought he was bad. I was just a little confused, like, ‘Why aren’t you sociable?'”
Chloë also explained that at the time, she had no idea what method acting was. “I didn’t even know what the method was,” she recalls. “I never had any formal training; I think I was just faking it until you made it.”
“But this whole method thing, I was wondering: what is this approach? It was very intimidating.”
