The last episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend I saw a sweet reunion between Conan and Lisa Kudrow.
According to PeopleConan and Lisa dated from 1988 to 1993, shortly before they both became famous in the television world. In 1993, Conan returned to host the show Late at nightand the following year, Lisa made her debut as Phoebe Buffay in a new NBC comedy called Friends.
In the latest episode of Conan’s podcast, the exes and close friends reminisced about the early days of Friendswhich began filming in May 1994. Conan recalls Lisa calling him to praise one of his new co-stars at the time.
Of course, Lisa was referring to Matthew Perry, who starred alongside her on the show as Chandler Bing. Looking back, Lisa was blown away by Matthew’s comedic chops, which struck a chord with Conan.
“Yeah. And you said he was so funny, and there was a part of me that was jealous,” he admitted. “I thought, Ok… I really make you laughand you said, “No, you don’t understand. This guy is really [funny].’”
Despite previously finding it “embarrassing” to watch herself play, Lisa recently opened up about her decision to start rewatching old episodes of Friends to honor Matthew after his sudden death in October 2023.
Speaking to Conan, Lisa shared more about her change of heart, admitting that there have been days since Matthew’s death where she’s spent “all day watching the show.”
