Cowboys All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey kicks 66-yard field goal in preseason game

The official NFL record for the longest field goal is 66 yards. Justin Tucker made it to win a game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Detroit Lions. The ball bounced off the crossbar and went into the net. one of the most spectacular kicks in NFL history.

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey hit a 66-yard field goal Saturday night and made it look easy.

Aubrey was called upon to attempt a 66-yard field goal late in the first half Saturday night against the Las Vegas Raiders. He made it, as his Cowboys teammates celebrated and coach Mike McCarthy cheered and laughed. It’s the preseason so it won’t officially count, but what a kick.

While this shot doesn’t count and won’t rank alongside Tucker in the NFL record books, it was impressive especially because he had a lot of room to maneuver. Nick Harris of the Cowboys website, citing Next Gen Stats, said the shot would have been good for 72 yards. You usually only see shots like this in the Denver highlands.

Aubrey became an instant star at kicker last season. He kicked 35 consecutive field goals to start his career, an NFL record. He made 36 of his 38 field goal attempts. He was a first-team All-Pro kicker in the NFL. He also had a great story, as an athlete who played soccer, not football, at the University of Notre Dame. The Cowboys noticed him in the USFL, signed him and got one of the best kickers in the NFL.

Aubrey may not get a chance to kick a 66-yard field goal during the regular season to match Tucker. But the Cowboys now know he can do it.
