Damson Idris Talks Filming With Brad Pitt and Real Drivers for F1 Movie

Damson Idris returns to filming alongside Brad Pitt and real Formula 1 drivers for upcoming film directed by Joseph Kosinski F1 movie.

THE Snowfall The actor recently spoke with Vanity Fair where he recalled his audition for the highly anticipated film as well as the first day of filming once he landed the role of Joshua Pearce, Pitt’s Sonny Hayes’ teammate at APXGP, a fictional racing team on the grid.

“I look to my left, it’s Brad Pitt. I look to my right, it’s Javier Bardem. I look at my hands, they’re shaking,” he said of the first day of filming at the British Grand Prix last year. “And we’re filming all this epic stuff and all the incredible drivers are there, from Lewis Hamilton to Lewis Hamilton. [Hamilton] has [Max] Verstappen to everyone.

F1 The film follows Sony, a former driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with young driver Joshua. Hamilton, a seven-time F1 world champion and current Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team driver, also served as a producer on the film.

“I was in the car for 45 minutes today,” Idris said of filming inside the race cars in Abu Dhabi. “It feels normal, but it’s not. It’s so hot in here. You’re strapped in, you’re sweating through the helmet. You lose so much weight.”

But before the Outside the wire In order for the star to don the APXGP racing suit, he had to prove to Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he was up for the challenge. Idris said he was on a road trip when he found out he had landed the role and headed straight to the Silverstone circuit in the UK to test his driving skills.

“It was raining that day, I’ll never forget it,” he recalls. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, please don’t crash.’ First, because you’re probably going to die, but second, and most importantly, you’re not going to get the part.”

Today, after a year of filming for the movie whose first trailer has just been released, Idris can say that working with Kosinski was a dream come true.

“He’s a director’s director,” he explained. “He’s the embodiment of cinema to me. The feeling I had coming out of Top Gun This is what I felt when I was a child and I watched AND Or Star Wars. These films are defined by one thing: entertainment. Anyone, no matter their background, could come and see this film… His process is incredible.

And working with Oscar-winning Pitt is also something he’ll never forget. “He’s a superstar,” Idris added. “His humility is unmatched. I don’t know if people know this, but he’s really good behind that car. Really good. Too good almost. He makes me nervous, he’s that good.”

F1 is released in North American theaters on June 27, 2025.
