‘Garfield’ beats ‘Furiosa’ with $13-14 million

It’s another disappointing weekend at the summer box office, where overall domestic revenue appears to be down 67 percent – no, that’s not a typo – compared to a year ago year, as Hollywood and theater owners continue to struggle with the lack of photos from major events.

For some, there is reason to smile.

Alcon and Sony The Garfield Movie we expect it to purr easily after George Miller’s Angry with an estimated amount of $13 million, based on Saturday’s estimates. (Alcon fully financed the $60 million film.)

Angrywhich cost $168 million to produce, is down 59 percent to $10.8 million, dashing hopes of a rebound after a disappointing Memorial Day opening.

Composition AngryMisfortunes, the original family film by John Krasinki IF, now in its fourth weekend and starring Ryan Reynolds, continues to deliver. It even has a chance to beat Miller’s film this weekend with an estimated $10.7 million.

A month in the 20th century and Disney THE Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will place No. 4 with almost $9 million. It is the highest-grossing film of the summer to date, grossing over $300 million worldwide.

The latest opus of Planet of Monkeys franchise is in a tight race with Crunchyroll and Sony’s animated sports film Haikyu!! The battle of the dumpsters.

Among more limited offerings, Disney is also releasing the biographical drama Young woman and the sea, starring Daisy Ridley as the real-life English girl famous for swimming the English Channel. The film, which is only released in 300 theaters, is expected to gross around $500,000.

Summer camptargeting seniors with stars such as Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodward, appears to be faring a little better with nearly $1 million from 672 sites.

A year ago, this same weekend, Sony Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse opened worldwide to $208.6 million. This partly explains why combined weekend revenue, expected to be around $68 million, is down a steep 67% from the same frame last year and after a dismal May.
