Harris campaign unveils three ads targeting Trump on abortion ahead of debate | The Times Of Update

Vice President Harris’ campaign on Saturday unveiled three new ads using former President Trump’s comments on reproductive health care to target him ahead of the upcoming debate.

The 30-second ad, titled “Told us”, Trump notably said: “For 54 years they tried to overturn Roe v. Wade and I did it and I’m proud to have done it.” Those comments come from a town hall meeting the former president attended with Fox News in January.

The ad warned that Trump would want to go further and pass a national abortion ban. The Republican candidate has said he would not sign a national abortion ban, but refused to say whether he would veto such a ban if it reached his desk

Another 30-second ad, titled “Big family,” said Alabama resident Latorya Beasley, who explained how her embryo transfer was canceled after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled in February that frozen embryos are children, threatening the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The latest ad, a one-minute spot called “Laurel” said Laurel Marcinkus, a Wisconsin resident who said she was unable to seek prompt treatment after having to induce labor because of a blood clot in her uterus. Doctors at the time, she said, were afraid they would be sued for treating her.

“I almost died. It was because of the decision that Donald Trump made,” Marcinkus said in the ad. The video also includes a quote from the former president, saying that “there has to be some form of punishment for women” who have abortions. The video is from a 2016 interview on MSNBC.

The campaign said “Told Us” will air in key states and during peak viewing times, including when popular primetime shows return. The “Laurel” and “Big Family” ads will air as digital spots on Hulu, Roku, YouTube, Paramount, Spotify and Pandora.

“Donald Trump is a fundamental threat to reproductive freedom — and you don’t have to take our word for it — Trump said so himself,” Harris spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said in a statement. “In fact, he has repeatedly said he was ‘proud’ to have overturned Roe — a decision that harmed countless women, including Latorya and Laurel.”

The ads are part of the campaign’s $370 million investment in television and digital between Labor Day and Election Day.

Harris’ campaign also launched a reproductive rights bus tour this week, which will be joined Tuesday by Minnesota first lady Gwen Walz and second gentleman Doug Emhoff. The couple will travel to Asheville and Raleigh, North Carolina, to highlight restrictive abortion laws passed in Republican states since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022.
