Hollywood Reporter wins Best Website at 2024 SoCal Journalism Awards

The Hollywood Reporter won Best Website and Rebecca Keegan was named Print Journalist of the Year at the 66th annual SoCal Journalism Awards, presented Sunday evening.

THR won a total of 11 first-place awards, the most among any publication, including awards for critics Daniel Fienberg, David Rooney, and Sheri Linden, as well as Best Feature Under 1,000 Words from Gary Baum and Ryan Gajewski. In a stellar night for Rebecca Keegan, she also won Best Cultural/Artistic Feature Under 1,000 Words for her play “The San Quentin Authors.”

There were also wins for Scott Feinberg (best audio personality profile/interview longer than 10 minutes), Anaja Smith (best use of social media related to a cover story) and THR‘s excellent photo department won awards for a single subject photo essay (culture/entertainment) and an entertainment portrait.

The awards are decided by the Los Angeles Press Club, which previously said more than 2,300 nominations were submitted this year. The winners were announced at a gala awards dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Also during the ceremony, the organization presented honorary awards to Jane Seymour, Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, The Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich, Amanda Sala of Fox 11 and Mickey H. Osterreicher of the National Press Photographers Association.

Smith, who won the Joseph Quinn Lifetime Achievement Award, called the honor “the most important and rewarding honor of my professional career” and called on journalists “to continue to stand up for the truth” and against subjective interpretations of truth in these uncertain times. moments “when facts, truth and journalism seem to matter less”.

“You’re not supposed to be loved,” Smith added, before the ballroom lights suddenly went out during his speech. “The lights are off but not the microphone,” he said, laughing in the room.
