Man who died in Sangamon County fire last week identified by coroner

A person died in a fire Dawson Village on June 16 was identified by Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.

David Crim, 63, lived in the house as a tenant in the 300 block of Walnut Street.

Firefighters found Crim inside the home when the structure caught fire. Crim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allmon said his office was awaiting “additional studies” following a June 17 autopsy.

Several fire crews from the surrounding area were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 a.m. after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the house. The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to the scene.

The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

Dawson is about 20 minutes northeast of Springfield.
