Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Loses Director Yann Demange

Blade is once again looking for new talent behind the camera. Filmmaker Yann Demange left the project, which had been in development for a long time, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

The departure is described as amicable and happened some time ago. It’s the latest in a series of creative challenges for the project, which Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced with fanfare at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 when he surprised the crowd by bringing out the star Mahershala Ali and presenting him with a Blade cap.

Blade was set to enter production in fall 2022 when director Bassam Tariq left his position due to creative differences. Then, according to sources, Ali was handpicked Lovecraft Country Helmer Demange directed, but a few months later it became one of the major feature films delayed by the writers’ strike in May 2023. As of now, it has never been put into production.

Ali remains committed to starring in the project and the studio is not looking to rush the film. Marvel mainstay Eric Pearson is working on the latest version of the project, which has a release date of November 7, 2025. Blade The news also comes as Marvel recalibrates its production and hopes to have more breathing room by releasing around two films per year, following pressure to increase film and television content in the early 2020s.

Ali’s Blade made a vocal appearance in a post-credits scene for Eternals which also starred Kit Harington, who played Dane Whitman in the film. Ali is the second actor to headline a Blade movie. Wesley Snipes starred in a trilogy in the 2000s.

Blade debuted in Dracula’s Tomb #10 and was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Coleman as a half-vampire who hunts vampires to avenge the death of his mother, who was killed by a vampire while giving birth to him .

Marvel then Deadpool and Wolverinescheduled for release on July 26, and will follow it with Captain America: Brave New World, Love at first sight* And Fantastic Four.
