Matthew Macfadyen ‘didn’t really enjoy’ his role in Pride and Prejudice

Matthew Macfadyen explains why he ‘didn’t really enjoy’ his role as Mr Darcy in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice.

The Emmy-winning actor reflected on the film he starred in alongside Keira Knightley during an interview with CBS Morningm Tuesday morning.

” I do not really have [enjoy it]”I feel bad saying this. There were times when I had a good time, but I wish I had enjoyed it more. I wish I had been less worried about it.”

Macfadyen added that he didn’t feel he was the right choice for the role of Mr. Darcy. “I felt a bit miscast, like I wasn’t attractive enough,” he added. Deadpool and Wolverine “But it worked,” the actor said.

And that’s exactly what happened, as the film was nominated for four Oscars. The British actor also admitted that he was always delighted when he was recognized as Mr. Darcy in public.

“Probably the most flattering thing that happens to me today is that people ask me, ‘Were you Mr. Darcy?'” he said. “So 20 years later, I think, ‘I can’t get old. that wrong.'”

The Joe Wright-directed film, based on Jane Austen’s novel of the same name, focuses on the budding relationship between Elizabeth Bennet (Knightley), the daughter of a country gentleman, and Mr. Darcy, a wealthy English aristocrat.

Before Macfadyen took on the beloved role, he was already following in Colin Firth’s footsteps, having played Mr. Darcy in the 1995 TV miniseries Pride and Prejudice. THE Succession The star added that the two actors then compared notes on their separate experiences “exhaustively” and “thoroughly.”
