Matthew Vaughn Addresses Argylle’s Bad Reviews: My Guard Is Down

Matthew Vaughn did not expect this disappearance For Argythe director said this week.

“My guard fell on For Argy” said Vaughn Empire. “We did test screenings which went wonderfully. The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to To tear out days when there was such excitement. And I started drinking the Kool-Aid.

The Hollywood Reporter criticized the spy comedy for “its joyless, garish performances, tortured random plot twists, and appallingly shabby CGI” and the film now holds a 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

“It’s a fun, heartwarming movie, or at least I thought it was a fun, heartwarming movie,” Vaughn continued. “We didn’t do Citizen Kane, but damn, then the reviews came out and I was like, ‘Wait, what did I do to offend these people?’ They were vitriolic. I’m by no means saying the movie is perfect, but I didn’t think it was offensive. This took me by surprise.

Vaughn said he found the critical reception hard to believe, even going to the theater to watch the film again. I thought, “Maybe I’ve lost the plot now.” “It really shook me,” he said. “I’m really scratching my head about this, because it can’t be ignored. It wasn’t like [just] some bad reviews.

However, the director leaves the situation in the past. “That’s how it is,” he said. “You learn from these things.”

Plus, you never know how attitudes might change again. “We’re doing really well in streaming,” Vaughn said. “People like it. Nothing would make me happier than to make another one. I get texts saying, “Wow, those reviews were really harsh!” » The more we can get people to watch For Argy, the more chance we have of doing another one.
