Maui Invitational returns home after wildfires with field featuring UConn, North Carolina and Michigan State

After a year of absence due to the 2023 fires that killed dozens and devastated the local landscape, the Maui Invitational returns home in 2024.

He does so with a deep lineup that includes defending NCAA men’s champion UConn and traditional powers North Carolina and Michigan State.

Announcement from the tournament organizers Maui Invitational players will be in attendance Tuesday for the tournament, which runs Nov. 25-27. It will be held at the Lahaina Civic Center, the traditional host on the island of Maui.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in 2023, but was moved to Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu following wildfires that razed the resort town of Lahaina and 102 people killed as Deadliest wildfire in the United States for over a century.

Lahaina continues to recovera process focused on rebuilding businesses and provide housing for residents who have lost their homesThe return of the Maui Invitational will mark the 40th anniversary of the tournament being held on Maui since 1984.

The schedule features eight teams that will all play Monday before the bracket is narrowed and a champion is crowned the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. UConn will face Memphis and Colorado will face Michigan State in Monday morning’s session. Auburn will face Iowa State before North Carolina takes on Dayton to close out Monday night’s session.

North Carolina is seeking its fifth Maui Invitational title in its ninth appearance. UConn will be seeking its third title, while Michigan State and Dayton will each be looking for a second.
