Netflix Shares Teaser and Release Date for “The Platform 2”

Netflix has revealed an October 4 release date for the long-awaited second part of The platform universe, after the first film was one of the most popular Spanish films on the streamer.

Ranked fifth in the top ten non-English language films category with nearly 83 million views, The platform was released to huge success in 2019. In July 2020, Netflix said the film had been watched by 56 million households in its first four weeks of release, gaining even more popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Platform 2 stars Milena Smit (The Snow Maiden), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game Of Thrones) and Oscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).

It is directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia (The platform) and produced by Carlos Juárez, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and Raquel Perea, from the Basque Films team.

A preview of the final installment was released on Thursday, giving fans a gruesome glimpse of what’s to come in the second sci-fi horror film, where residents are confined to a large, tall building or “vertical self-management center.”

“As a mysterious ruler asserts his power over the Platform, a new resident finds himself drawn into the battle against this controversial method to combat the brutal food system,” the plot synopsis reads. “But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far will you go to save your life?”
