Off-duty probation officer shoots dead man who opened fire at Bronx bar, wounding cook | The Times Of Update

Off-duty parole officer shot an armed man WHO opened fire inside a Bronx bar early Sunday and injured a cook, according to reports.

Chaos broke out inside the Kutty Bar and Lounge on Boston Road near Mace Ave. around 1:45 a.m., cops said.

The 40-year-old gunman had been kicked out of the bar, prompting him to go to his SUV to retrieve his weapon, according to ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News. He burst into the lounge and opened fire, hitting a 37-year-old cook in the right leg, the station reported.

That’s when the probation officer, who was there as a client, intervened, shooting the gunman multiple times in the torso, according to ABC.

The injured man fled the scene in his white Honda CR-V, but only made it about a block before crashing into a light pole at the corner of Mace and Wallace avenues.

The gunman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition, police said. The cook is in stable condition at the same hospital.

According to ABC, the shooter was involved in a murder investigation in December 2023. Details of that investigation were not immediately clear.
