Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Produce Brian Duffield’s Laika Crumble

Laika has acquired the live-action film Crumble from writer-director Brian Duffield and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Duffield, who wrote and directed last year’s Hulu feature No one will save youis expected to direct the new project from his original script. Crumble focuses on a married couple who find themselves on a world-spanning adventure as they search for the cure to an ancient curse.

Lord, Miller and Aditya Sood will produce the film under their Lord Miller banner alongside fellow producer Duffield. Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida of Lord Miller are executive producers.

“We are thrilled to partner with Brian and the entire Lord Miller team on this special film,” said Matt Levin, Laika’s president of live action films and series, in a statement. “Brian has such a unique voice and Crumble “Lord Miller perfectly embodies the bold, emotional and inventive storytelling we stand for at Laika. Lord Miller is in a class of his own, and we couldn’t ask for a better creative team to bring this story to life.”

In addition to her work on the project led by Kaitlyn Dever No one will save youDuffield wrote, produced and directed the 2020 film Spontaneous and was a producer on Cocaine Bear. Duffield is also set to write, direct and produce. Whale fall for 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment, with the project based on the novel by author Daniel Kraus.

“I will never forget seeing Coraline “I had the opportunity to see Laika on the night it opened at the AMC Burbank 16 theater and I was wondering who these wonderful new geniuses were,” Duffield said of Laika. “I’m looking forward to making a film with them and hopefully living up to their reputation, and I’m beyond excited to have another adventure with my friends at Lord Miller.”

In their own statement, Lord and Miller praised Laika CEO Travis Knight: “We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with our friend Brian Duffield, who has written an endlessly imaginative, funny and romantic script. We have long been fans of Laika and Travis Knight’s groundbreaking work in animation and couldn’t be happier to partner with them in live action.”

Duffield is represented by UTA, Circle of Confusion and Behr Abramson. Lord and Miller are represented by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
