Ryan Reynolds Got Madonna To Authorize Like a Prayer Movie For Deadpool And Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman knew it wouldn’t be easy to get Madonna’s permission to use her 1989 hit “Like a Prayer” in Deadpool and Wolverine.

The two actors, along with director Shawn Levy, shared in a recent interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, via Peoplethat they had to visit the iconic singer to ask her to authorize the publication of the song.

“This involved a personal visit to Madonna, where we showed her the sequence where ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used,” Levy explained.

“It’s also important to point out that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, especially this song,” Reynolds added. “It was a big deal to ask for the license and it was an even bigger deal to use it. We went to her and showed her how it was being used, where and why.”

Levy noted that they felt like they were “meeting royalty” during the visit. Reynolds even joked that he had to ask one of Madonna’s staff members how to address her appropriately.

“Am I allowed to just say ‘Madonna’?” Free man The actor recalled: “Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan.'”

The tour proved to be an overall success, with the artist “Material Girl” granting them permission to use the song, as well as the opportunity to Deadpool and Wolverine Give your team some helpful notes for the scene using “Like A Prayer.”

“She gave it a terrific grade,” Reynolds said. “She looked at it, and I’m not kidding, [she said]“You have to do it.” And damn, if she wasn’t exactly right.

“We literally started a new recording session in 48 hours to get that score,” Levy added. “It improved the sequence.”

Deadpool and Wolverinewhich sees Reynolds and Jackman’s characters team up for a new mission, hits theaters July 26.
