Scammers posing as police in Lynnwood, Olympia through phone calls

Scammers allegedly pretended to be the police Lynnwood And Olympia.

Police departments in both cities are now warning the public about fraudulent phone calls.

“Please be vigilant for these calls,” Lynnwood police wrote on similar to this, please hang up immediately.

Your phone may display caller ID that appears legitimate, according to both police departments, but the calls quickly turn around once they start demanding money or even threatening arrest.

If anyone receives a call like this, you are advised to hang up and call your local police department.

“We have received numerous reports of scammers calling pretending to be police officers and demanding payment for money orders,” Olympia police wrote on X. “Officers will never call you asking for money .”

Police in Lynnwood and Olympia are just the latest in a string of law enforcement agencies to be targeted. Last month, the Kitsap and King County Sheriff’s Offices warned the public about the scam affecting their residents.
