Sharon Stone to Receive Taormina Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award

Sharon Stone will receive a lifetime achievement award at the closing night of the 70th Taormina Film Festival next month.

The festival will present him with the Cariddi d’oro alla carriera (Cariddi d’oro for lifetime achievement), which has previously been awarded to personalities such as Jessica Lange, Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, Richard Gere, Colin Firth, Isabelle Huppert and Gina Lollobrigida.

The star and producer will meet with the press and public for a conversation about “how she redefined what it meant to be a woman on screen, becoming a global cultural icon over the decades,” Taormina festival organizers said Wednesday. “Sharon Stone’s appearance in Taormina – curated by Marco Fallanca – marks her first time at the festival, which has hosted Primary instinct“Italian premiere in 1992.”

After his debut in 1980 with a cult cameo in Woody Allen’s film Stardust MemoriesStone rose to international fame in the 1990s with films such as Full Recallin which she starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, and notably with the emblematic role of Catherine Tramell in Paul Verhoeven’s film Primary instinctfollowed by Phillip Noyce’s thriller Wick. In the West Dead or aliveStone starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and also starred in Martin Scorsese’s film Casinofor which she received a Golden Globe for Best Actress and an Oscar nomination.

“Sharon Stone has always been committed to civil rights issues and, for almost 30 years, she has been a spokesperson for amfAR, founded by Elizabeth Taylor to support AIDS research,” the organizers of Taormina stressed.

The Taormina festival takes place from July 12 to 19.
