Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, will deliver remarks Saturday night at the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) annual national dinner in Washington, the LGBTQ rights organization and Vice President Harris’ campaign announced Wednesday.
Walz, who has served as Minnesota governor since 2019, is a longtime advocate for equal rights for LGBTQ people. Under his administration, Minnesota has banned conversion therapy and enacted laws protecting access to health care and abortion.
Waltz too makes a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention’s LGBTQ+ caucus meeting in Chicago last month.
“We are incredibly pleased and honored to welcome Vice Presidential nominee Governor Tim Walz to our national dinner,” Kelley Robinson, president of HRC, which endorsed Harris-Walz, said in a statement. “Whether as a veteran, a teacher and football coach, a member of Congress, or as governor, he has spent his career championing equality.”
President Biden headlined the event last year, and first lady Jill Biden also delivered remarks.
