Amid speculation about the future of Euphoriawe have new reports of an alleged feud between the show’s two key players, Zendaya and Sam Levinson.
It’s been over two years since the last season of Euphoria airs on HBO in early 2022, and in that time, a lot has happened to raise concerns about whether the series will ever return for its previously confirmed third season.
All the backlash found the show’s creator and sole writer, Sam Levinson. But, by this point, he already had his eyes set on his next HBO series: The idol.
To shorten it, The idol — which Sam co-created alongside Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) and Reza Fahim — was a total disaster. Starring Lily Rose-Depp as a struggling pop star, the series premiered in June 2023 to widespread criticism. cancelled after only one season.
So, in addition to the Euphoria backlash, the overall failure of The idol left Sam’s reputation in a bad state. And it seems that his involvement in the controversial series contributed to the delays of season 3 of Euphoria.
In January, HBO and Max Content CEO Casey Bloys said fans could expect Euphoria has back on screens in 2025. But, without knowing if Sam even had a script ready, it was starting to look unlikely, and in March, HBO confirmed that the third season was officially delayed.
Now, a full-scale presentation of the Hollywood Reporter claims the delay was partly caused by a dispute between Sam and Zendaya, which apparently had a lot to do with The idol.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Zendaya was even more upset when the Rolling Stone article was published, claiming that The idol had gone off the rails in a “disgusting and disturbing” manner.
While Zendaya was reportedly annoyed by Sam’s work on The idolhe apparently had concerns about how she was handling her career. A source close to Sam criticized Z for focusing on her film activities, which, since season 2 of Euphoria completed, have included roles in Dune: Part Two And The challengers, both of which were huge successes.
In March, Variety Published reports indicate that Sam’s ideas for Season 3 — in which Rue, played by Zendaya, would work as a private investigator — were “immediately” rejected by HBO. In turn, Zendaya proposed to Rue that she get sober and become a surrogate. However, it didn’t make any impact…
