Springfield school board member Maryam Mohammadkhani was elected Saturday to represent Missouri on the Republican National Committee, which develops and promotes the Republican brand and policy platform across the country.
The RNC helps with fundraising and election strategy. He also organizes the Republic National Convention, which will take place this summer in Milwaukee.
At the Missouri Republican Convention, held Saturday in Springfield, Mohammadkhani was elected committeeman from Missouri and David Lightner, of Jackson County, was elected committeeman from Missouri. They will serve a four-year term.
Mohammadkhani defeated incumbent Carrie Almond of Chillicothe with a vote of 488-251. Likewise, Lightner beat Gordon Kinne, longtime Republican stalwartof Springfield, with a vote of 508-235.
“The Republican agenda essentially restores the American dream to every citizen and I see myself as someone who was able to achieve the American dream – an immigrant, broke, and now having the opportunity to retire earlier than most. people. I just want this dream for every citizen of Missouri,” Mohammadkhani said Monday, in an interview with the News-Leader.
“If I can, in some way, contribute in a way that might go in that direction, then I see that as something valuable, an effort that is absolutely worth being a part of .”
She said Almond and Kinne received a lot of support from local, state and national politicians, including Trump, but did not win the election.

Mohammadkhani confirmed that a video circulating on social media showed the entire speech she gave on Saturday, just before the vote, except for the first few seconds.
“I discovered the promise of freedom, liberty and prosperity that was fought for and won for us and that we must now fight to preserve. Life is precious and saving lives is all I have ever done” , said Mohammadkhani, a retired pathologist who spent most of his career at CoxHealth.
“As a physician and school board member of the largest district in the state, I have fought to protect and educate children because they are indeed valuable and represent the future.”
Mohammadkhani was first elected to the school board in 2021, winning the most votes in that election. She was re-elected April 2 alongside incumbent Danielle Kincaid, an attorney, and first-time candidate Susan Provance, a retired Springfield teacher and coach.
