On March 8, Ariana Grande released her long-awaited seventh studio album, Eternal sun, on all platforms, marking the singer’s first album since Posts in 2020. In less than 24 hours since its release, Eternal sun reached No. 1 on the Apple Music Albums Chart in the United States and sent its fans – also known as Arianators (or Ariheads) — in a frenzy. They were quick to take to social media to discuss the album’s reveals and Easter eggs.
Grande fans and movie buffs were quick to point out that the album’s title appears to be a direct reference to the 2004 Michel Gondry-directed sci-fi romance film. Eternal sunshine of the impeccable mind which stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. In fact, Grande even confirmed the film’s influence on this “concept album,” calling it a reflection of her “psychotic, dream world.”

“I think the movie is so beloved because a lot of people can understand that something is wrong, but love it so much and want to stay and want to understand,” she said. “I think it kind of fell into place that these songs had little snippets of that theme in them. I felt really inspired by that.
In the video for the single from the album “We can’t be friends“, Grande is seen in a paneled waiting room, similar to that in the film, and fills out a form consenting to have his memory erased. She plays Peaches, a character inspired by Winslet’s free-spirited protagonist Clementine, and recreates remarkable shots from the film with her video co-star Evan Peters.
While Grande has spoken about her admiration for Carrey and Eternal sunshine of the impeccable mind itself, the film was also a favorite of the late rapper Mac Miller. Grande and Miller dated between 2016 and 2018. The popular Pittsburgh native tragically died in September 2018 at 26 years old. With that in mind, some fans believe the album title was also another way for her to pay homage.

Most damning, fans say, can be heard on “Eternal Sunshine,” on which they claim Grande hints at infidelity.

On the first verse of the album’s third track, “Don’t Wanna Break Up Again”, Grande also sings about crying herself to sleep and needing to pull herself together:

Some fans think that “big day in the morning» The line refers to when Grande filmed the upcoming feature film adaptation of Wicked in London from 2022 to 2024. Grande and Gomez filed for divorce in 2023 after two years of marriage.
