It seems Chris Hemsworth is still struggling to overcome the disappointment of Thor: Love and Thunder.
For context, Chris played the god of thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade now, and in that time his character has had four standalone films – starting with Thor in 2011.
The first film was followed by Thor: The Dark World in 2013 and Thor: Ragnarok in 2017, both of which were well received by viewers. However, it is widely acknowledged that the fourth installment failed to meet fans’ expectations.
In case you haven’t seen it, the one from 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder – which also starred Natalie Portman and Christian Bale – relied more on comedy than previous films, which didn’t necessarily resonate with audiences.
The film was co-written and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Taika Waititi. Notably, Taika also directed Ragnarok, which is considered the best of the four films; however, the characteristic humor that made Ragnarok a success had apparently become “more and more boring” In Love and thunder.
In the past, Chris has openly admitted that Love and thunder was not the success he hoped for, saying GQ last June, that the film was “too stupid” for its own good.
In the same interview, the 40-year-old also indicated that it was difficult for him to be the target of criticism: “I love the process, it’s always an adventure. But we just don’t know how people will react.
And now in a new Vanity Fair profileChris continues to reflect on his disappointment, confessing that he thought his performance was to blame.
“I got caught up in improvisation and madness, and I became a parody of myself,” he told the outlet. “I didn’t make the landing.”
Shortly after, Chris’s comments began circulating on social networksand fans were quick to jump to his defense, suggesting it was unfair for him to take the blame.
Interestingly, Chris’ older brother, Luke Hemsworth, was also interviewed for the Vanity Fair article and observed that Chris can be “focused and self-critical” to a fault.
