The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers about a mushroom-infused chocolate bar that has reportedly sent some people to the hospital.
The FDA released an informational message on June 7 regarding Diamond Shruumz “microdose” chocolate bars. The chocolate bars contain a “proprietary blend of nootropics” said to provide a “relaxed euphoric experience without psilocybin,” according to its website.
“The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with the U.S. Poison Control Centers and state and local partners, are investigating a range of illnesses associated with the consumption of Diamond Shruumz brand microdosed chocolate bars,” reads the website. the FDA.
“Do not eat, sell or serve Diamond Shruumz brand microdose chocolate bars,” the site warns. “The FDA investigation is ongoing.”

“Microdosing” is the practice of taking a very small amount of psychedelic drugs with the goal of increasing productivity, inspiring creativity, and improving mood. According to Diamond Shruumz’s website, the brand said its products help achieve “a subtle, sumptuous experience and a more creative state of mind.”
“We’re talking about confections that pack a punch,” the brand said. “So if you love mushroom chocolate bars and want to get in on the fun of microdosing, check us out. We might just change the way you see the world.”
But government officials warn that the products have caused seizures in some consumers and vomiting in others.
“People who have become ill after eating Diamond Shruumz brand microdose chocolate bars have reported a variety of serious symptoms, including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, drowsiness), agitation, frequency abnormal heart rate, hyper/hypotension, nausea and vomiting,” the FDA reported.

“All eight people reported seeking medical attention; six were hospitalized,” the FDA press release said. “No deaths have been reported.”
Diamond Shruumz states on its website that its products are not necessarily psychedelic. Although chocolate is marketed as promising a psilocybin-like experience, it does not contain psilocybin.
“There is no presence of psilocybin, amanita or any other scheduled drugs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience,” the website claims. “Rest assured, our treats are not only free of psychedelics, but our carefully crafted ingredients still deliver an experience.”
