Four people killed, four others injured in crashes in same South Carolina county, police say

Four people were killed and four others injured in a series of crashes last week in the same Midlands county, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Four fatal crashes occurred in six days in Orangeburg County, the Highway Patrol said.

SATURDAY

The most recent collision occurred Saturday and involved two vehicles, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.

Around 3:45 a.m., a 2007 Honda Accord and a 2018 GMC Terrain crashed in the United States 21Glover said.

The Honda was traveling north on U.S. 21 and the GMC was heading south when they collided near the intersection with Mays Chapel Road, according to Glover.

Glover said the driver, who was the only person in the Honda, died at the scene.

There were two people in the GMC and both were transported to an area hospital, according to Glover. Further information on the condition of the GMC occupants was not available.

It is unclear if any of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

Information about the cause of the collision was not available, but police are still investigating.

Friday

Another person was killed in a crash in Orangeburg County the day before.

Around 4:30 a.m. Friday, a pedestrian died in a collision, according to Glover.

A 2007 Ford F-450 was traveling north on US 321 when the van struck the pedestrian who was walking on the road near the intersection with Caughman Trail, Glover said.

The pedestrian died at the scene, according to Glover.

Glover said the driver, who was the only person in the van, was not injured and no other injuries were reported.

Glover did not say whether the Highway Patrol was continuing its investigation into Friday’s deadly wreck.

Tuesday

In another accident in Orangeburg County, one person was killed Tuesday in a collision at the junction of two main highwaysaccording to Glover.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., a 2023 Harley-Davidson was traveling north on Interstate 95 and as the motorcycle took exit 86 to head west on Interstate 26, the two-wheeler swerved at left and the pilot spilled into the exit ramp, Glover said.

Glover said the motorcyclist was the only person on the motorcycle and no other injuries were reported.

It was unclear whether the rider was wearing a helmet.

Information about the cause of Tuesday’s crash was not available, and Glover did not say whether the Highway Patrol was continuing its investigation into the crash.

Monday

One person was killed and two others hospitalized in a crash in Orangeburg County earlier this week.

At approximately 9:25 p.m. Monday, a 2021 Toyota SUV was traveling westbound on Binnicker Bridge Road and crossed the left of the center line and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2006 GMC pickup truck, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

The driver of the pickup and a passenger, both from Pelion, were transported to a hospital in Orangeburg, while the driver of the SUV was flown by helicopter to Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, Ridgeway said .
