Before taking the stage at the Los Angeles Pride in the Park concert on June 8 – with Ricky Martin headlining – the RuPaul’s Drag Race alumna explained the thought process behind choosing her drag ensembles during a Zoom call Saturday morning.
“I’m kind of doing a twist on a beauty pageant winner who can’t let go of her crown,” the drag queen said of the performance and the outfit she wore for the event. Makeup plays an important role in creating a look, and for LA Pride in the Park, Velor decided to try something new. “I’m doing a bright orange lipstick to tie the dress together, which is really out of my comfort zone,” Velor said. “I’m still a glittery red lip, but it’s just…it’s not the fantasy of this outfit.”
Velor completed her glam with glittery eyeshadow and, of course, dramatic eyeliner. “When I don’t have a cat’s eye pulled out, I just don’t feel like myself,” she explained.

Velor said she now believes the show highlights the resilience of small-town queer communities. “I really came to see that it’s about shining a light on the existence of queer people and the queer community all over the world,” she said.
