Interior Design Festivals Hit Los Angeles: LCDQ Legends, Design Miami.LA

As noted interior designer Michael Smith once noted, “Los Angeles is a party city,” an observation that may explain the city’s obsession with real estate and interior design , fueled by home pride. May’s double design festival – La Cienega Design Quarter Legends and the inaugural Design Miami.LA – celebrates our passion for all things home.

La Cienega Design Quarter Legends 2024: May 7-9

The La Cienega design district “Legends” eventwhich celebrates all things interior design, makes its annual bow on May 7th. The theme this year is “Flower Rooms”.

Kicking off the LCDQ celebration will be a gala on May 7 at the Sunset Tower Hotel honoring Pamela Shamshiri, known for her work on the homes of Anne Hathaway, Paul McCartney and Ryan Murphy. The Design Festival attracts interior design professionals and aficionados for two days (May 8-9) of dynamic panels, exclusive lunches, experiential offerings and engaging talks. Among the highlights (many of which require “VIP registration”) are:

— A conversation between longtime friends Robert Ruffino, who has worn the hat of editor-in-chief of both Beautiful house And Elle DecorAnd Alfredo Paredes who, during his tenure at Ralph Lauren, crafted our ideas of classic American style. Wednesday May 8, 9:30 a.m., at Ancient Moderne, 8632 Melrose Avenue

— Bronson Van Wyck, internationally renowned event designer, and Jeff Klein, restaurateur and owner of the beloved Sunset Tower Hotel and San Vicente Bungalows, discuss their secrets to creating memorable event and hospitality spaces. Wednesday May 8, 1 p.m., at Ancient Moderne, 8632 Melrose Avenue

– Interior decorator Madeleine Stuartwhose client list includes Jason Alexander, Larry David and Lisa Henson (as a child, Stuart urged his father, director Mel Stuart, to bring his favorite book, Charlie and the chocolate factory on the screen; she and her brother have cameos at the end of Gene Wilder’s adaptation).

The highlight of the LCDQ event is the transformation of premier storefronts into professional-only storefronts along La Cienega Boulevard by top interior designers including Jake Arnold, Windsor Smithand Jason Martin of Martin & Brockett, who will be on hand for a week starting May 5. “From hotels to parties, from decor to restaurants, from fashion to art, Legends celebrates the countless ways we are all inspired by great design,” says Rebecca Birdwell, design industry strategist and producer of the ‘event.

Design Miami.LA: May 16-20

“It seems fitting to begin 2024, which we have dubbed our year of evolution, with our inaugural exhibition in Los Angeles,” says Jen Roberts, CEO of Design Miami.

Consolidating the city’s place as one of the pillars of the global art world, alongside editions of the fair in Basel, Miami and Paris, which debuted last year, the invitation-only fair Design Miami.LA made his debut on May 16, commandeering a Holmby Hills estate…
