Jessica Lange will receive the Munich Film Festival prize

Two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange will receive this year’s CineMerit Award at the Munich International Film Festival, recognizing her “outstanding contribution to the world of cinema.”

In addition to her two Oscars – for Best Supporting Actress Tootsie in 1983 and best actress in Blue sky in 1995 — Lange can boast a total of six Oscar nominations, three Emmy wins (from 10 nominations), five Golden Globes (from 16 nominations) and a Tony Award.

Alongside her impressive film career, Lange has more recently become a muse for Ryan Murphy, appearing in several seasons of American horror story – she earned five Emmy nominations and two wins for the FX drama – and dazzled as Joan Crawford opposite Susan Sarandon’s Bette Davis in the FX/Hulu miniseries Feud: Bette and Joan.

Lange is currently up for a second Tony, nominated for her lead performance in Paula Vogel’s Mother play, which premiered on Broadway on April 25. The festival will screen a selection of Lange’s films, selected by the actress.

In addition to the CineMerit award, Lange will also present a selection of his photographs from his own fine art photography project, Derivative, kicking off a three-month exhibition at the Deutsches Theatermuseum in Munich. The exhibition features photos of intimate and surreal moments captured by Lange during a COVID-19 lockdown in New York.

Munich Film Festival Director Christoph Gröner and Co-Artistic Director Julia Weigl said: “Jessica’s enduring talent and versatility as an actress, coupled with her artistic exploration through photography, make her a ideal candidate for this honor. »
