Man dies after falling from cruise ship in Australia

Australian police discovered the body of a man off the coast of Sydney while searching for a cruise ship passenger who fell overboard on Monday.

The man fell overboard before dawn near Sydney Heads, about 18 kilometers from shore, as police and other emergency services launched a search, New Wales Police said from South.

Around 10:30 a.m. (0030 GMT), officers located the body and recovered it, police said.

Police will now prepare a report for the coroner and have launched an investigation into how the incident unfolded.

P&O Cruises’ Pacific Adventure was due to arrive in Sydney Harbor on Monday.

“We thank the guests for their attention, understanding and patience during this difficult day for the guests and crew,” said a company statement, cited by local media. “Our thoughts are with the guest’s family at this difficult time.”

The ship was returning to Sydney after a three-day voyage to Queensland’s Morton Island.
