Meryl Streep will receive the Cannes Honorary Palme d’Or at the 2024 Festival

Meryl Streep is expected to receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, organizers announced Thursday.

Hollywood star, who won the Best Actress award at Cannes in 1989 for her performance in Fred Schepsi’s film. Evil angels — will contribute to the kick-off of the 77th edition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière.

“I am extremely honored to receive the news of this prestigious award. Winning a prize at Cannes, for the international community of artists, has always represented the highest achievement in the art of cinema. Standing in the shadow of those who have already been honored is both humbling and exciting. I can’t wait to come to France to thank everyone in person next May! Streep said in a statement.

She will return to the French festival after a celebrated career in Hollywood for more than five decades. “We all have something of Meryl Streep in us!” We all have something within us Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, Out of Africa, Madison County Bridges, The Devil Wears Prada And Oh mom! Cannes festival directors Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux said in a joint statement.

Streep, who is participating in the opening of Cannes, will close a festival which will end on May 25 with the presentation of the prizes by an official jury led by president Greta Gerwig.

Past winners of the Cannes Honorary Palme d’Or include Jeanne Moreau, Marco Bellocchio, Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Jane Fonda, Agnès Varda, Forest Whitaker and Jodie Foster.
