Nantucket Film Festival 2024 lineup, winners including Inside Out 2

The Nantucket Film Festival has set the program for its 2024 edition and will honor The morning show writer-producer Kerry Ehrin, Oscar-winning documentarian Roger Ross Williams and Girls5Eva showrunner Meredith Scardino.

The 29th edition of the festival will open with June Squibb by Josh Margolin Thélmaclosing with the documentary Christopher Reeve by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui Superman and the documentary by Jeff Zimbalist Skywalkers: A Love Story, about a daredevil couple who secretly filmed themselves scaling the world’s last super skyscraper. The festival will also continue its tradition of screening a Disney or Pixar film on its opening day, with an in-festival screening of Inside Out 2.

The festival also announced several winners: Ehrin will receive the Excellence in Television Writing Award; Williams will receive the Career Achievement in Filmmaking Award and his latest feature film Stamped from the start, based on the book of the same name by Ibram X. Kendi, will be screened at the festival followed by a conversation between Williams and Kendi; and Scardino will receive the New Voices in Television Writing award, presented by Girls5Eva star Paula Pell.

Other films screening this year, made up of more than 60 feature and short films, include that of Sean Wang. Frozen; Susanna Fogel Winner; Chris Smith’s Devo; The documentary Diane Von Furstenberg by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton Woman in charge; Nanette Burstein’s Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes; That of Gary Hustwit Eno, about visionary musician and artist Brian Eno; and the film Luther Vandross by Dawn Porter Never too much.

NFF added a NextGen program this year, consisting of films appealing to millennial and Gen Z audiences. And it is bringing back, for the third year in a row, its Green Carpet Cinema program, showcasing films focused on the environment.

“This year’s selection of films continues to celebrate bold, independent voices, close to home and across the world,” senior programmer Basil Tsiokos and senior programmer Anita Raswant said in a statement. “We invite our audiences to explore a wide range of works that honor the power of storytelling – and, in turn, our common humanity during our highly curated six-day festival.”

Nantucket Film Festival Executive Director Mystelle Brabbée added, “Since its inception in 1996, the NFF has aimed to create a space that showcases and celebrates the work of incredible storytellers in film and television, and this year does no exception.
