Next-gen Nintendo Switch will be revealed next year

A new Nintendo Switch video game console is on the horizon… but don’t expect any news in the coming months.

Nintendo released its quarterly results on Tuesday, and along with that news, the company released a statement from its president Shuntaro Furukawa regarding rumors that a new Switch could debut during this summer’s Nintendo Direct event.

“We will make an announcement regarding the successor to Nintendo Switch this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the Nintendo Switch in March 2015,” Furukawa said. “We will be hosting a Nintendo Direct in June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.”

The Switch is Nintendo’s flagship device, allowing users to play both on their TV and on the go. Although the company has updated the Switch with new screens, accessories, and other upgrades, it’s still basically the same device released nine years ago, leading to speculation that the announcement of a new model was imminent.

Nintendo has just started its new fiscal year, so Furukawa’s statement means the company will reveal more about the next-gen device between now and March 2025, in time for the Switch’s 10th anniversary.

Nintendo, of course, brings its own internal IP for its devices, including Worlds of super mario bros. And The Legend of Zelda.

In recent years, the company has also made a bigger push into Hollywood, announcing plans for another Super Mario Bros..-film scheduled for 2026 in March and collaboration with Sony on live action The Legend of Zelda movie.
