Nicki Minaj’s whimsical Marni mini dress burst with petal power at the 2024 Met Gala.
The “Pink Friday” rapper stepped out in a clever yellow dress adorned with recycled metal flowers. Its museum-worthy silhouette featured a bold brushstroke-like texture, giving the impression of a 3D oil painting. At his side was the creative director of the Italian fashion house, Francesco Risso.
Minaj completed her custom Technicolor look with her own line of Pink Friday snap studs — in a decidedly understated light pink almond shape — and a matching chain shoulder clutch.
Minaj made her Met Gala red carpet debut in 2013 when she wore a navy Tommy Hilfiger dress. This year marks his seventh participation in the fundraiser; she has previously worn Prabal Gurung, Riccardo Tisci for Burberry, Jeremy Scott and H&M at the event.
This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name, which fits perfectly with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, The Sleeping Beauties: the awakening of fashion, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. The exhibition curated by Andrew Bolton highlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all seen through the prism of nature. The beautiful book of the exhibition will be released on June 18.
