“Our White Whale”: Wallenpaupack Brewing Company Wins World Beer Cup Medal

Wallenpaupack Brewing Company won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup last week in Las Vegas.

The Hawley-based brewery won in the Belgian-Style Strong Blonde Ale category for its Kroon Belgian Golden Strong Ale, a 9% alcohol by volume beer containing “a rich blend of yeast-derived aromatics, including pear, bubble gum”. and crushed pepper.

It was the first award for local business at the World Beer Cup, which this year brought together more than 9,300 entries from more than 2,000 breweries representing 50 countries.

“The World Beer Cup was our white whale beer competition, so finally hearing our name called and walking across that stage brought a flood of emotions including elation, pride and relief,” Logan said Ackerley, head brewer of Wallenpaupack, in a press release. “Our production team works tirelessly to produce the highest quality beer possible. So it was really gratifying to see Kroon being named one of the best in the world. »

Rebecca Ryman, owner and president of the company, called the World Beer Cup the largest and most prestigious beer competition in the world.

“Winning here affirms our brewery’s place – not only as one of the best breweries in Northeastern Pennsylvania – but the country as a whole, and we are honored to be recognized by this esteemed panel of judges,” she said in the press release.

The Kroon, which is still available at the brewery and select retail outlets, is the first in a two-part series of Belgian Strong Ales from Wallenpaupack. Its counterpart, Trône Belgian Dark Strong Ale, is expected to hit shelves later this year.
