Teen took father’s car without permission in Wisconsin and got arrested in Florida, cops say

17-year-old drives his father’s car without permission I took things to the extreme when he traveled more than 1,330 miles from Wisconsin to Florida, according to investigators.

Flagler County sheriff’s deputies arrested the teen Wednesday, April 24, at a Palm Coast gas station, after his father reported his car and his son missing while he was out of town, officials said. Palm Coast is about 60 miles south of Jacksonville.

“Officers determined that (the teen) had stolen his father’s vehicle while he was on a business trip,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

“He was not allowed to drive his father’s car after being stopped by local law enforcement in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a few weeks prior for reckless driving,” according to deputies. “He had stolen the keys and left Wisconsin two or three days before.”

The teen was arrested and charged with car theft, officials said.

Investigators have not indicated his intended destination in Florida.

Coincidentally, he had been stopped for speeding in a Flagler County school zone the day before his arrest, but the vehicle had not yet been reported stolen, authorities said. He received a written warning for driving 31 mph in a 20 mph zone, officials said.

An 18-year-old Wisconsin woman was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle when it was stopped, and she was also arrested and charged with auto theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, officials said.

“Runaway in a stolen car is a recipe for disaster, but thanks to the efforts of our team, a stolen car was safely recovered, a missing juvenile was found and arrested before anyone could be harmed, and his accomplice adult can spend the remainder of his vacation time in Florida (in jail),” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in the release.
