The Broadway musical “Lempicka” will end on May 19

The new musical Lempicka announced that it would play its final performance on May 19, about a month after its Broadway premiere.

The musical, about the life of artist Tamara de Lempicka, is the first to announce its closing after the Tony nominations were announced Tuesday. The musical’s two leads, Eden Espinosa and Amber Iman, received nominations, and the musical also received a nod for set design, but the show was not nominated in the critical category of the best musical.

“We are very proud of our production and the family of artists and artisans who shaped it. Few people knew better than Tamara de Lempicka that art is not easy but it is always worth it,” producers Seaview and Jenny Niederhoffer said in a statement.

The production itself, which features a book by Carson Kreitzer and Matt Gould; Music by Gould; Words by Kreitzer; and directed by Rachel Chavkin, received mixed to negative reviews and also struggled at the box office.

The musical, which began previews at the Longacre Theater on March 19, has seen revenue decline in recent weeks. In the most recent revenue week, ending April 28, the musical grossed $288,101.
