Tyler Perry’s “Straw” starring Taraji P. Henson and Sherri Shepherd

The ever-busy Tyler Perry has completed the casting of his upcoming Netflix film, Straw.

Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar and Mike Merrill star in the film about a devoted single mother faced with unfortunate events that send her on an unexpected path.

Struggling with circumstances beyond her control, she finds herself entangled in a situation she never imagined. Fueled by despair, she finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence, according to a synopsis from the producers.

Perry will write and direct Straw, the final film in its multi-year first-look deal with Netflix and is scheduled to film in Atlanta. Previous Perry films with Netflix include mea culpawith Kelly Rowland, The blues of a jazzman, A return of Madea, the 12th part of Do one the franchise and the thriller A fall from grace.

The producer credits Straw are shared by Perry, Angi Bones and Tony Strickland. Perry and Netflix also work together on faith-based TV series and films.

His upcoming projects with Netflix include the World War II drama, The Six Triple Eight, about the only all-black, all-female battalion stationed overseas as part of the war effort. Kerry Washington will lead a cast that also includes Oprah Winfrey. Perry is also working on the recently announced drama series Beauty in blacka one-hour, 16-episode series that he wrote and will direct and produce.

Taylor is repped by WME, Taylormade Management Group and The Lede Company. Glynn Turman is repped by Innovative Artists and The Rosenzweig Group.
