Idaho Bar Celebrates ‘Heterosexual Awesomeness Month’ in Response to Pride Month

An Idaho bar gained national attention for celebrating ‘Heterosexual Awesomeness Month’ in response to LGBTQ Pride Monthcelebrated in June for decades.

The Old State Saloon in Eagle, a suburb of Boise, announced its “first Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” on social media last month.

“Every Monday will be Straight Monday and any straight man dressed as a straight man will receive a free draft beer,” the bar says. said in a message on Facebook which has since gone viral. “Every Wednesday is Heterosexual Couples Day and every heterosexual couple will receive 15% off their bill.”

Bar owner Mark Fitzpatrick said he came up with the idea as June approached because he knew “all of this was going to happen.” according to KTVBan NBC affiliate in Boise.

“But with my beliefs, I love people, but as a biblical Christian, I can’t celebrate it,” Fitzpatric told KTVB. “And in the last few years, it’s become so extreme. So we created Heterosexual Awesomeness Month.

Regarding what was “becoming so extreme,” Fitzpatrick said, “the images that you see all month long with parades and going as far as nudity and things with people walking down the street, I can’t support that .”

He added that he didn’t go to Boise during the Pride Festival.

“I will always side with what God says,” Fitzpatrick told KTVB. “If the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, then I will agree with what the Bible says. This doesn’t mean I don’t like gay people, or that I don’t like people. But just because you love someone doesn’t mean you’re going to root for them and support them in every decision they make in life. It’s not an obligation. »

Fitzpatrick said his “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” involves “no hate at all, it’s a love story.”

He said he received national support, and the bar posted on its Facebook page Thursday that it was out of food. The bar is also sells “Heterosexual Awesomeness Merch” on its website, including a black and white T-shirt with the American flag with the male and female gender symbols on it and a T-shirt with a beer glass on it that says “Beers for Breeders and “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month.”

Thursday evening, the bar’s Facebook page also shared a picture of a child vomiting a rainbow with the caption “Protect the children” invoking a decades-old false moral panic that LGBTQ people are dangerous to children – rhetoric increasingly used by the right in recent years.

The bar wrote in response to the image: “This wouldn’t be posted if things hadn’t gone too far!”
