Karen Gillian and Zoë Chao will star in Let’s have children!a comedy from MRC.
Adam Sztykiel, the screenwriter of the DC film Black Adam who has already broached the subject of childbirth with Due date, will make his directorial debut. Sztykiel was previously set to make his directorial debut for the Warner Brothers/DC project Wonderful twins before this film flopped after the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav put the project on hold amid a pullback from streaming films.
Children focuses on lifelong best friends Emma and Phoebe, played by Gillan and Chao, who decide to try for their first baby at the same time so they can navigate the great unknown of motherhood together. However, they discover that their friendship is profoundly tested when only one of them becomes pregnant.
Sztykiel wrote the screenplay with Ellie Knaus. Filming begins this year.
The comedy is produced by Becky Slovite, whose credits include the hit comedy Palm Springs and acclaimed series PEN15. Sloviter is producing through his production company A Dare To Be Great Situation.
Gillan is best known for her Marvel Studios films, particularly the guardians of the galaxy trilogy, in which she plays fan-favorite character Nebula.
Chao was noticed for his role in the comedy series Facebook Watch Foreigners. Most recently, she was one of the stars of Apple TV’s mystery show The after partycreated by Chris Miller.
Gillan is repped by UTA, Linden Entertainment and Jackoway Austen. Chao is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Schreck Rose. Sztykiel is replaced by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone and MFW.
