Turns out one of Challengers’ most iconic scenes wasn’t even in the original script

Challengers Director Luca Guadagnino revealed that the show’s defining scene almost never happened.

The sports drama presents ZendayaJosh O’Connor from The Crown and a Broadway performer Mike Faist as a trio of burgeoning tennis players who find themselves embroiled in a complicated love triangle that dominates their professional and personal lives for over a decade.

As soon as the trailer was released last year, the wait for Challengers was high, particularly because of a clip that appears early in the film, in which the trio’s characters find themselves embroiled in a three-way kiss.

However, while the sequence can already be considered one of the film’s most iconic moments, Luca admitted that it wasn’t even part of the original story.

“I don’t think that was in the script at the beginning. Not at all,” he said. Weekly Entertainment.

“We discussed at length with [screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes] the concept according to which the [love] The triangle should flesh out the possibility that all corners touch – that if you are jealous of someone, you are not jealous of your partner, you are also jealous of not being chosen by the rival.

“You want to be the object of the rival’s affections, so you are jealous of not being a part of it as much as you are jealous of your partner’s choice.”
