American Express to host free, outdoor simulcast of Tony Awards

American Express will host an outdoor simulcast event for the Tony Awards on June 16.

The “Broadway Fanfare” event will take place at Damrosch Park, an outdoor space on the Lincoln Center campus that has a stage and seating for approximately 1,900 people and is behind the David H. Koch Theater, where the event will take place the Tony Awards ceremony. The event, free and open to the general public, will include a pre-show with performances and appearances by Broadway talent, as well as a live stream of the ceremony.

Damrosch Park has previously hosted concerts, New York Film Festival events and more.. The American Express event will also include on-site activations and photo ops. The company is the official payment partner of this year’s Tony Awards.

While the general public has been invited to purchase tickets for the ceremony itself in years past, tickets will not be sold to that group this year due to theater seating restrictions.

This is the first time the Tony Awards have been held at the David H. Koch Theater, having been held at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights last year and at Radio City Music Hall in previous years. The theater, which is usually home to the New York City Ballet, has a capacity of about 2,500 people, which also limits the number of industry attendees. This compares to the capacity of almost 3,400 seats at United Palace and almost 6,000 seats at Radio City.

The American Express event begins with a pre-show at 7:30 p.m. ET, separate from The Tony Awards: Act One pre-show broadcast on Pluto TV and which features some of the creative and honorary awards. The Tony Awards ceremony, hosted by Ariana DeBose, begins at 8 p.m. ET and will also be broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the United States.

“We are thrilled to welcome American Express as the official payment partner of the Tony Awards,” said Heather Hitchens, President and CEO of the American Theater Wing and Jason Laks, Interim President of the Broadway League. “We are planning a spectacular evening celebrating the magic and diversity of Broadway, bringing the excitement of the Tony Awards to theater fans everywhere.”

“At American Express, we are committed to providing our cardholders with unforgettable experiences related to their areas of passion – including theater and the arts – which makes this partnership so special,” said Shiz Suzuki, Vice President, global brand sponsorships and experiential. marketing, American Express. “We’ve had access to live theater events for some of our cardholders’ favorite award-winning shows for some time now, and we can’t wait to bring them even closer to the action on June 16.” »
